Who knew John Mayer was such a Bachelor buff?

During an appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres show earlier this week, Mayer bonded with DeGeneres about his obsession with the reality show. After a pal stayed on him to give the series a chance, Mayer, 34, said he finally caved and started watching during “the Brad Womack year.”

“I don’t even feel like it’s my fault for liking it,” the “Half of My Heart” singer says. “It’s not a guilty pleasure. It’s designed to be a pleasure.”

Explained Mayer, “It’s like a producer’s game. I wouldn’t be as excited to meet a cast member as I’d be to meet the guy who cuts that show. They have to ask someone like Ben [Flajnik] like, ‘Okay, Ben, we need you to walk out on the balcony without a shirt and just think.’”

The Grammy winner even busted out his Ben Flajnik impression when DeGeneres asked for his opinion on last season’s controversial final rose recipient, Courtney Robertson.

“There was nothing you could say to [Ben] to not pick Courtney. Girls were coming up to him, like, ‘I watched Courtney rip somebody’s face off.’ And he’d go, ‘I’ll take that under consideration,’” Mayer joked.

“What if they come to you and say, ‘Would you be the Bachelor?’” DeGeneres asked her guest.

The unlucky-in-love crooner–who has had high-profile romances with A-listers like Jessica Simpson and Jennifer Aniston–paused before replying.

“It’s one of those things where I would waste their time taking a meeting, just so I could hear more about it,” he shares. “Ultimately I’d say no. But I would just have to take the meeting.”

Much of Wednesday’s American Idol‘s performance episode was filled with footage of the top three– Joshua Ledet, Jessica Sanchez and Phillip Phillips – on their hometown visits. It was touching footage of these young performers at home feeling like superstars. But who’s going to cash in their Idol ticket for a chance at super-stardom?

They all have potential and they all sang three songs each on Wednesday during three rounds of competition. Song choice was selected by the judges, followed by the contestants, followed by mentor and vocal coach Jimmy Iovine.

Here’s how it went down …

Round One: Judges’ Choice
• Joshua performed Etta James’s “I’d Rather Be Blind” like “a dream come true,” according to Steven Tyler. “Out of 70,000,” the judge said, “there’s only one American Idol and you sang like that one tonight.”

• “You’ll be the last one standing here, I believe,” Steven said of Jessica’s version of Mariah Carey‘s “My All,” which Jennifer Lopez selected. “I could tell in the middle of it … it was hard,” she said, “but you did it so beautifully.”

• Phillip sang “Beggin’” by Madcon, which was Steven’s choice. “I’m really hoping you write your own songs because you could be the new age Boss,” Steven said, referring to Bruce Springsteen.

Round Two: Contestants’ Choice
• Joshua sang “Imagine” by John Lennon. “It’s almost like you’re preaching when you sing,” Jennifer said. “The way you’re willing to dig deep … it was makes you very special [and] that takes courage.”

• Jessica tackled Aerosmith’s “I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing,” which could have been a risk for a less talented singer. But Steven was pleased: “You just took a great song and made it greater,” he said.

• Phillip sang “Disease” by Matchbox Twenty but it wasn’t as well received. “I didn’t feel like it was the wow performance,” Jennifer said. “I’m sorry baby.” The crowd booed but Randy agreed. “It was just such a subdued moment from you,” he said.

Round Three: Jimmy’s Choice
• Jimmy picked Mary J. Blige’s “No More Drama” for Joshua, who gave it all he had, according to Randy. “You have laid everything on this stage that there is to lay,” the judge said. “That’s what being a great artists is about.” Jennifer put it this way: “You have this perfect marriage of knowing exactly what you’re doing and letting completing go at the same time.”

• Jessica was dealt “I’ll Be There” by Jackson Five, which was “the perfect song [for] the perfect voice,” according to Steven. But Randy said, “I didn’t love it. … There was never a moment moment.”

• And to close out the show, Phillip hit it out of the park with “We’ve Got Tonight” by Bob Seger, which earned him a standing ovation from the judges. Steven said, “You just showed you’ve got all that passion wrapped up inside you,” while Randy called it “the perfect song, at the perfect time and your best performance on this show ever.”

Sure she’s stillshopping at her favorite King’s Road boutiques, but the Duchess of Cambridgeis making a marked move toward a sexier, more daring style – and she’s leaving quite an impression.

“High-level glamour is becoming more of the norm for Kate due to her role,” her stylist pal Nikki Pennie, editor-at-large of StyleHaul, says in the new issue of PEOPLE. “She is becoming more playful, putting her hair in gorgeous updos to complement certain dresses. She is clearly enjoying the process and becoming more confident.”

She’s doing it single-handedly, too. Kate does her own makeup and doesn’t have an official stylist, according to palace sources. She also doesn’t accept free gifts from designers and chooses her outfits herself.

“She is becoming more and more confident, which I think is exciting to see,” says Stewart Parvin, a couturier to the Queen. “They way she does her hair, the way she does her makeup is getting better and better and she has this new inner glow.”

Howard Stern is in the building!

The radio shock jock took his seat next to Sharon Osbourne and Howie Mandel onAmerica’s Got TalentMonday night during the show’s seventh season premiere.

“These executives at NBC must be out of their mind to take a risk on me,” he said at the top of the hour. But in fact, Stern showed a lot of heart and proved he’s got talent – for judging!

When the Light Wire Theater group performed a dance routine featuring glow-in-the-dark dinosaurs, Stern, who pointed out earlier in the night that he was the only American on the panel, had a moment of patriotism. “We are the greatest country in the world. We have the most creative people. You’re everything that makes America great,” he told the dancers. “I applaud your originality and I thank you for lifting everyone’s spirit.”

Watching father and daughter duo Maurice and Shanice Hayes sing “I’ll Be There” made the new judge emotional. “You move me. You guys are spectacular together,” he said. “I think every father in America right now is like, ‘Wow, that’s the kind of relationship I want to have with my daughter.’ ”

But Stern hasn’t totally lost his edge. When stripping magician Aoni Jackson made Howie Mandel’s ring disappear and then reappear hanging off Jackson’s nipple ring, Stern buzzed him not once but twice, walking over to Howie’s empty seat and lighting up his X for him.

“I think the X has a lot of power,” he said later. “I like hitting it.”

When another performer with questionable talents said his parents were dead, Stern asked if they died of embarrassment.

A longtime fan of the show, Stern is clearly enjoying himself as the newest judge – and it’s a refreshing change for NBC’s summer talent search.

“It is one of the most fun experiences I’ve ever had in my life,” he said.

The Avengers assembled even more fans for its second weekend at the box office.

Marvel’s superhero blockbuster had the highest second weekend earning in box office history and is expected to break past the $1 billion mark worldwide.

Over Mother’s Day weekend, the film — starring Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Jeremy Renner, Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Mark Ruffalo, Samuel L. Jackson and others — earned $103.2 million at the domestic box office and $95.4 million overseas.

In total, after 19 days, The Avengers will gross $1 billion worldwide. The film has earned $373.2 million domestically, making it the fasted film ever to each $300 million.

In its debut weekend, Johnny Depp‘s vampire movie with Tim Buton, Dark Shadows came in second at the box office with $28.8 million.

What do you get a mother who’s got everything – courtesy of her superstar son?

The gift of music, of course!

Justin Bieber penned a new song called “Turn To You” – out on Friday at midnight on iTunes – as a Mother’s Day present for his mom, Pattie Malette. Listen to a clip of it here first (below).

The new song is the latest gift that Bieber, 18, has given his mother. The singer recently announced that he graduated high school, namely for his mom.

“That was something my mom really wanted me to do, so I had to do it for her,” Bieber said. “I mean, this kind of lifestyle has given me a different perspective on life.”

André 3000 to Play Jimi Hendrix in Biopic Even Though a Hologram Would Do the Work for Free

OutKast frontman André 3000 (né Benjamin) has now been officially confirmed to portray Jimi Hendrix in a feature film about the late rocker’s life that will either be really, intimidatingly cool or, oh my gosh, so embarrassing and awful.

According to the Irish Film & Television Network (the filming will take place in Ireland), it is believed the movie, titled “All Is By My Side” will cover Hendrix’s life from 1966 to 1967.

Hendrix was first discovered at a club in New York in 1966. He recorded his debut album Are You Experienced with his band The Jimi Hendrix Experience the next year.

A key factor in the film’s success or failure will likely be whether it features any actual Hendrix music.

The Hendrix estate, run by the musician’s stepsister Janie, has a history of blocking the use of his songs in films—a trend that has proven the kiss of death for several other proposed Hendrix biopics. This one, for instance, has been “in the works” for several years.

It’s unknown whether the estate has finally agreed to license Hendrix songs for the movie, or whether the filmmakers intend to work around that minor huge issue.

Principal photography is slated to begin in Ireland in three weeks, so, if André 3000 told you he would come to your parents’ anniversary party next month, that was a lie.

If this film proves half as engaging as his Gillette commercial, I’m all over it.
