Tucson shooting suspect Jarred Lee Loughner made his first court appearance yesterday, but since he killed John Roll, the chief federal judge for Arizona, the federal judges on the case took themselves off of it.

Loughner is due back in court Jan. 24. Until then, he is being held without bail.

He could face the death penalty.

Jared Lee Loughner has an attorney… her name is Judy Clarke.

She is the same attorney who represented Ted Kaczynski, the “Unabomber”; the Atlanta Olympics bomber, Eric Rudolph; Oklahoma City bomber, Timothy McVeigh; and Susan Smith, the South Carolina woman who drowned her two children by driving her car into a lake.

The alleged Tucson gunman may have had a fascination with the occult.

Hidden inside a camouflage tent in Jarred Loughner’s backyard is an altar with a skull on top of a pot filled with shriveled oranges. A row of ceremonial candles and a bag of potting soil were also on the altar.

Experts said the elements are featured in the ceremonies of a number of occult groups.

LOUGHNER LEFT HIS PAL A VOICEMAIL

At 2:00 a.m. on Saturday morning, which was about eight hours before he allegedly killed six people in Tucson, Jared Lee Loughner phoned a close friend.

The friend was up late watching TV, but he didn’t answer the call.

When he checked his voice mail, the message from Loughner said: “Hey man, it’s Jared. Me and you had good times. Peace out. Later.”

That was it.

Later in the day, when the friend heard about the Tucson massacre, he said: “They hadn’t released the name, but I said, ‘I think it’s Jared that did it.’ For some reason I felt like I knew…I felt like if anyone was going to shoot her, it would be Jared.”

The friend said Loughner had a long-time grudge against Giffords and had repeatedly said she was a “fake.” Apparently, Loughner went to an earlier rally and asked Giffords a question and wasn’t satisfied with the answer.

The friend also said Loughner was obsessed with “lucid dreaming” - that is, the idea that conscious dreams are an alternative reality that a person can inhabit and control.

U.S. Marshals in a Florida Federal courthouse saved 35,000 images on their scanner. Apparently, the Marshals had improperly, and maybe illegally, saved images of thousands of people… and Gizmodo.com got a hold of some.

Gizmodo did ’eliminate the identifying features’ in the pictures before they posted them.

They said leaking the photographs demonstrates the security limitations of these scanners.

If billionaire Alki David is an honest man, the man who streaked in front of Barack Obama at the president’s rally today in Philadelphia will be paid $1 million for his stunt. The man who performed today’s stunt, which captured the attention of the Drudge Report and an Associated Press photographer, is 24-year-old Juan James Rodriguez, THE WEEKLY STANDARD has learned.

A few months ago, David made his offer. He would pay $1 million dollars to the first person to streak within “eye-shot and ear shot of the president, they have to scream the name ‘battlecam.com’ six times, and they have to be nude.”

Johnny Depp, who’s filming Pirates of the Carribean 4 in England at the moment, visited a London school dressed as Captain Jack Sparrow.

He made the one-off trip after nine-year-old pupil Beatrice Delap wrote to the star asking for help staging a ‘mutiny’ against the teachers, as he was filming at the nearby 18th century Old Naval College.

The school was told just ten minutes before that Depp would be arriving and two blacked-out cars swept through the school gates.

An onlooker said she heard the most ‘incredible screams of joy’ as the actor, in full make-up, then entered the school.

A teacher was smart enough to whip out her cell phone and take a quick video of the event.

Research in Motion (RIM) has released the official competitor to the iPad….it’s called the “Playbook”

The CEO of the company jokes that unlike its competitor, the Playbook is the first tablet to be able to access the full web. Apple products do not support Adobe’s Flash.

He also promised that it would be an amazing gaming platform, which is a stretch away from RIM’s usual business-oriented products (BlackBerry).

He was very open about discussing features, but stayed away from price and battery life of the Playbook. It will be released in early 2011.

A 48 year old man in Davenport, Iowa was arrested for not showing up to court. But it’s his forehead tattoo that made the real headlines.

In late 2000, the man became a human billboard for a radio station after a DJ offered listeners a six-figure payout if they tattooed the station’s call letters and logo on their forehead. The man and his stepson went to a local tattoo parlor and had “93 Rock,” the “Quad City Rocker” tattooed on their noggins.

Of course, when the men called in for the cash, station execs explained that the offer was a practical joke. The man sued, claiming the station tried to get listeners permanently marked so that they “could be publicly scorned and ridiculed for their greed and lack of common good sense.”

The man eventually dropped the suit.

What’s worse, is that since the man got the tattoo, the station’s format and call letters have changed. The former hard rock station is now and adult contemporary station.

The “Jersey Shore” boys got a sporty makeover for the October issue of GQ and were forced to ditch their Ed Hardy pants, jewelry and hair-gel for the shoot.
