A perfect activity for Winter Days!!! The South Charleston Library will kick-off it’s Winter Story-Times the schedule is……. Baby Lapsit(6months-23months and their caregivers)- Mondays: 10:00am-10:30, Mondays: 1:30pm-2:00, and Tuesday: 10:00am-10:30 Toddler Time(2 yrs- 3yrs and their caregivers) – Monday 11:00am-11:45, Tuesdays 11:00am-11:45, Wednesday 10:00am-10:45, Wednesday 11:15am-12:00pm Preschool Story-Time(4yrs-5yrs)- Thursdays 1:30pm-2:15 Family Fun Times(for children of ALL Ages and their caregivers) Thursdays 6:30pm-7:15. Charleston Parks and Recreation Zumba – Wednesdays in April and May

A Latin inspired dance-fitness program will have you moving and grooving.  Get in shape while stepping to the rhythm. Come out to the North Charleston Community Center in the meeting room on Wednesdays at 5:30pm. Ages 18 and up are welcomed during the month of April and May.  This activity has a $5.00 fee per session.

Charleston Light Opera Guild Presents “The Color Purple” – May 18th through 19th

Charleston Light Opera Guild is proud to bring this musical adaptation of Alice Walker’s Pulitzer Prize winning novel to the stage!!! Taking place in rural Georgia the story spans the years between 1909 and 1949.  Young Celie faces many hardships including a pregnancy at age 14, marriage to a cruel and controlling farmer, Mister, and Mister’s imposed separation of Celie from her sister and best friend, Nettie.  Mister’s son, Harpo, grows up and brings home Sofia, a proud and strong-willed woman whom he loves and later marries.  Mister’s former love, a blues singer named Shug Avery, helps Celie become a stronger woman and to find God within herself.  Finally, after spending years as an African missionary, Nettie returns and Celie’s search for peace and happiness is complete. This is defiantly a do not miss!!!! Show times are……… May 18th, and 19th at 7:30pm. All seats are $20 and can be purchased at the Civic Center Box office. Muscular Dystrophy Association Walk & 5K – Saturday May 19th

Put on your running shoes and come out for a great cause!!!!! The Muscular Dystrophy Association will be having a Walk/5K at Ritter Park in Huntington. Registration will begin @ 9:00am with the 5K kicking off @ 9:30am andthe Walk starting @ 10:00am. For more details or to start a team contact the MDA (304)344-9807.

Walk to Honor Fallen Heroes - Saturday May 19th

Come  out on May 19 at Coonskin Park to walk in honor of our nations fallen heroes and to raise donations for two very important organizations; “Active Heroes” and “A Soldier’s Child”!!! You can make a donation at any City National Bank to “The Memory Miles” donation account or visit http://www.stayclassy.org/fundraise/team?ftid=5038 to make a donation online!!Registration will begin at 9AM with the registration fee being a $5.00 donation!T-shirts are also available and need to be ordered in advance.The prices are as follows:

3-3 Game Changer Basketball Challenge - Saturday May 19th

Get ready to hit the Hardwood for a GREAT Cause!!!! A Bracketed 3-3 Basketball Tournament fundraiser for the WV Children’s Home Society and FCA will take place at Poca High School with Registration beginning at 9:30am. The cost is $40 per team of 3 or 4 players(your Choice) both male, female, and combined teams are welcomed. However if there are several all female teams  a bracket for them might be started. The divisions consist of…. High School, Middle School, and Open(which will be for ALL other teams). The day will also have Live Music, Informational Booths from Sponsors,Concessions,and Game Officials will present for each game!!!! So lace up your high tops and come out to support two fantastic community programs!!!

Taste of Putnam – Sunday May 20th

Be ready to get your eat on!!!!!!!!!!!! The Taste of Putnam will be held from 12:00pm-5:00pm at Valley Park in Hurricane. This culinary event sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of Putnam County , and will feature tasty delights from 15 local restaurants and vendors. Tickets are .50 cents each and are redeemable at different booths for sample-size dishes. Seating is available throughout the park for this picnic style event. Hershey’s Track and Field Games -Tuesday May 22nd

The City of Charleston is proud to be hosting the 2012 Hershey’s Track and Field Games of W.V. from 6:00pm-8:00pm @ Laidley Field. Sign-Ups for District #3(Boone,Kanawha,and Putnam) for boys and girls ages 9 to14 will start @ 5:00pm with the games beginning at 6:00pm. The Hershey’s Track and Field Games have offered fun, and quality recreation and programs, by introducing Children to physical fitness through basic track and field for 34 years. Boys and Girls ages 9 to 14 may participate  in either two track events and one field event or two field events and one track event!!! Events will include: 50,100,200,400 meter dash; 800,1600 Meter run;4 X100 Meter Relay; Standing Long Jump; and Softball throw. BridgeFest – Thursday June 28th

It’s that time of year again…… BridgeFest is back!!!!!!!!!! This Annual festival brought to you by the Bridge Road Neighborhood Association and will be held from 6:00pm-9:00pm. Admission is FREE so come out for a evening filled with….Live music by The Fort Hillbillies, A Taste of Bridge Road – food booths will sell food from Bridge Road restaurants, and TONS of Family fun including face painting, jupiter jump, arts/craft projects. Also Frank Addington Archery will be on hand for live demonstrations. A Free shuttle from Sacred Heart Co-Cathedral on Virginia Street in downtown Charleston and from St. Mathews Episcopal Church on Bridge Road will be provided through out the event. All proceeds benefit streetscape projects.  For more details on this events visit www.bridgeroad.org
